Join or start a GSA
Thousands of students have started Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) and similar clubs dedicated to making schools safer and more inclusive for everyone. GSAs organize events, participate in Days of Action [link to 2.4 Participate in a Day of Action] and work on other projects to encourage their peers, teachers and administrators to address anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment.
To see if your school already has a GSA, visit www.studentorganizing.org and look for your school in the directory.
If your school doesn’t have a GSA (or it has become inactive) you can get free resources from GLSEN to help start one. Visit www.glsen.org/jumpstart to download the Jump-Start Guide, which includes an action plan for starting and growing your GSA, actions your GSA can take to improve school safety and answers to frequently asked questions.
